Image means everything to celebrities. Unfortunately, their behavior does not always reflect their desire to be seen in a positive light. Although some celebrities have made horrible mistakes, many have somehow been able to sweep these incidents under the rug. As a result, many fans may be completely unaware of their favorite celebrity’s past, and will be shocked to know that the squeaky clean person on TV may be hiding something.  Fortunately, for the public, the Internet has made it incredibly easy to dig up dirt on the biggest names in the entertainment industry.  Here are 10 celebrities you didn’t know had a criminal history.

Natasha Lyonne

Natasha Lyonne gained mainstream success in 2013 as a cast member on the Netflix original series, Orange Is the New Black.  However, her experience behind bars is not just limited to her character in the show.  Lyonne has a real life criminal record that includes charges such as harassment and trespassing.  During an interview Lyonne discussed her legal issues stating: “In my experience of living, for a time, in the underbelly of society, I spent a lot of time in various holding cells. As wild as I was, when the cops show up, and suddenly you’re being handcuffed, it’s so deeply shocking and terrifying, the loss of freedom. I don’t want to make myself off as tougher than I am. I was never put in the prison system, which frankly would not have happened if I wasn’t some actress with a fancy attorney.”

Chace Crawford

Chace Crawford is well-known for his role s Nate Archibald on the CW series, Gossip Girl.  Although fans are used to seeing him as a clean-cut good guy, off camera Crawford has had some run ins with the law. In 2010, Crawford was arrested for possession of marijuana.  However, the charges were dismissed once Crawford served a year of probation, and completed 24 hours of community service.

Cheryl Cole

In 2003, Cole made headlines when she was accused of assaulting a bathroom attendant at a night club. According to reports, the situation may have even been racially motivated. As a result of her behavior, Cole was found guilty of  assault occasioning actual bodily harm; however, the charges for racial motivation were dropped. Cole was sentenced to complete 120 hours of community service, and was ordered to pay the victim.

"Baywatch" Star Gets 2 Years Probation

Yasmine Bleeth

Baywatch star, Yasmine Bleeth, may appear to be angelic, but her drug addiction has caused several legal issues for the 46-year-old star.  In 2001, Bleeth was arrested after police noticed that she was driving suspiciously.  When her car was searched, authorities found several syringes filled with cocaine.  After taking a plea bargain, Bleeth was sentenced to two years of probation and 100 hours of community service with the agreement that the felony charges would be cleared from her record once the terms were met.

Charles S. Dutton

Before becoming an actor, Charles S. Dutton was an amateur boxer.  At just 17 years-old, Dutton’s boxing skills got him into legal trouble when he accidentally killed a man he said had attacked him.  As a result, Dutton was charged and found guilty of manslaughter and sentenced to seven years in prison.  Not long after being released, Dutton was arrested again and charged with possession of a deadly weapon.  He was again sentenced to jail time, and was released after serving three years.

Christian Slater

Unfortunately for Christian Slater, his track record with the law leaves much to be desired. Since 1989, Slater has been arrested several times for charges that include drunk driving and assault.  In 1997, Slater was convicted of assaulting his then girlfriend, and sentenced to three months of jail time along with three months in a rehabilitation center. In 2005, Slater was arrested again for sexually harassing a female on the street; however, the charges were later dropped.

Joshua Jackson

Joshua Jackson is best-known for his role as Pacey Witter on the popular teen-themed TV series, Dawson’s Creek. However, much like his character, Jackson can have a bit of a temper when pushed too far. In 2002 Jackson was arrested at a hockey game for allegedly assaulting a security guard.  Jackson was then charged with assault and public intoxication; however, the charges were dropped on the terms that Jackson agreed to attend an alcohol education program and complete community service.

Mark Wahlberg

Although many have forgotten, Boston bad boy Mark Wahlberg, has not always been the mature star he is today. In 1988, Wahlberg assaulted two Vietnamese people while screaming racial epithets. Wahlberg was subsequently charged with attempted murder and assault, and sentenced to two years in a correctional facility.  In 2006, Wahlberg apologized for his behavior, stating: “I did a lot of things that I regret, and I have certainly paid for my mistakes…You have to go and ask for forgiveness and it wasn’t until I really started doing good and doing right by other people, as well as myself, that I really started to feel that guilt go away.”

Tim Allen

Tim Allen may be good at making people laugh, but there’s nothing funny about his arrest record. In 1978, Allen was arrested for possession of cocaine, and sentenced to a three – seven-year prison term.  Allen was freed after serving a little over two years. In 1997, he was arrested again for driving under the influence , and sentenced to one year probation.

Will Smith

Will Smith is one of Hollywood’s most beloved stars.  However, back in 1989, the Fresh Prince was extremely close to becoming a prisoner.  According to reports, Smith was arrested on charges that included aggravated assault and criminal conspiracy. Fortunately for Smith, the charges were eventually dropped.
