Surf Life Saving member Lindsay Crofton has been remembered as beach-lover by his wife and close mate after his sudden death on Father’s Day.

The beachside community of Coolum Beach in the Sunshine Coast Region was rocked by Mr Crofton’s suspected drowning after he was pulled from the water while swimming at Main Beach on Sunday morning.

According to the Sunshine Coast Daily, lifeguards worked on the 63-year-old former paramedic for over 45 minutes before he sadly died at the scene.

Family and friends, including widow Katie Crofton, were shocked to hear of his loved clubby’s death – saying he was a fit and able swimmer.

“He should be at home with all of his friends, he shouldn’t of been the first one to go,” Mrs Crofton said.

“He should’ve outlasted everyone.”

Mrs Crofton told the SCD her husband “lived for that beach” and was loved by Coolum Beach SLC members.

“And that’s where we’ll have his ashes scattered,” she said.

Club president and close mate Ernie Burrows shared Mrs Crofton feelings of shock.

“Lindsay would try and swim pretty much every morning and go to the gym three days of the week and work out, it’s just a total shock,” he said.

“He’s never had any issues as far as I know, he’s been always reasonably good.”

Mr Crofton held roles including first aid officer, the chief training officer and a trainer during his time at the club.

It is understood his death was a result of a medical incident.
