Loved ones are mourning the death of a young Perth woman who was tragically killed waving down cars on a Western Australian freeway.

At about 10.40pm on Thursday night, Ebony Storm-Somerville and her passenger exited their blue Holden Commodore sedan after it ran out of fuel.

The car stopped on the side of the northbound carriageway of the Kwinana Freeway – a main road south of Perth – in Stake Hill.

The friends got out of their car to wave other vehicles down in hope of getting some help, but as the 26-year-old took a few steps away from the car, she was fatally struck by an oncoming Mitsubishi Outlander.

Ms Storm-Somerville – who had months earlier lost her baby son – sustained critical injuries in the incident, with paramedics unable to revive her.

Meanwhile her friend, who is also believed to be in her 20s, was taken to Rockingham hospital for observation by St John WA ambulance services.

It’s understood the driver of the Mitsubishi was uninjured.

Police are now desperately appealing for information, in a bid to piece together how the heartbreaking incident unfolded.

Family and friends of Ms Storm-Somerville are remembering her as like a “beautiful melody” who always lived life “to the absolute max”.

A friend of the family, Storm Mclarty, set up a GoFundMe page after the incident where she described Ms Storm-Somerville as someone who had a “magnetic energy” and shared a close bond with her mother.

“Her laughter was contagious and her warrior spirit had her getting back up no matter how many times she got knocked down,” she wrote.

“Ebony was comfortable in her own skin and while her beauty drew you in instantly, her many other loves and passions would have you admiring her even more.

“(She was) a loyal friend or lover, a heart that gave so much to so many … She was an angel here on earth.”

Meanwhile friends on Facebook remembered her as a woman with a “beautiful soul”.

“RIP Ebony you were a beautiful soul, condolences to her mum dad and other family,” one woman wrote.

“You will be missed,” added another.

A third said: “Rest in paradise beautiful girl, an angel taken back too soon!”

The family are hoping to raise $15,000 to cover the expenses of Ms Storm-Somerville’s funeral and associated costs.

“Times are hard on so many people across the globe right now, and we all know that many are feeling the pressure,” Ms Mclarty said.

“If you can spare to assist financially please donate whatever you can spare. Even a dollar in times like these goes a long way.
