On January 20th we were lucky enough to experience BoyZone’s Thank You & Goodnight Tour 2019 in Cardiff, which kicked off their farewell tour.
The first support act was a group called Miccoli. They warmed the crowd up singing a mixture of songs from their debut album ‘Arrhythmia’. The crowd being a mixture of ages enjoyed the songs; a few of them called ‘Do’, Devices ama their final song ‘Idle Strangers’.
The second support act of the evening was ‘Asher Knight’. The first song he performed was called ‘Broken’ then went on to sing ‘Why’. He got the crowd clapping with their hands in the air to his music.
Finally the long wait was over as BoyZone come down to the stage from a lowering platform. Their first song of the evening was ‘Who We Are’ which got the crowd up on their feet singing along. The boys sang their songs from 1993 all the way to their current album. They took the crowd all the way back to 1996 performing ‘All That I Need’ to then go on to perform ‘I Love The Way You Love Me’ and ‘Loaded Gun’.
The group then played a video on the big screens of them talking about Stephen Gately and what he meant to them in the group saying “it makes him a big part of our last chapter” . They then went on to a stage in the middle of the crowd to perform a beautiful tribute to the sadly deceased BoyZone singer. The tribute was a song called ‘Dream’ which features Stephen Gately, the song is a song they had found from 17 years ago and they had felt it was right to put it on their last album.
BoyZone then kept the crowd on their feet by singing a cover from The Bee Gees, ‘Words’. This got the whole of the crowd singing and dancing for the next song ‘Talk About Love’. The boys then sang a few tracks from their newest album including ‘Just Because’ which was written by Ed Sheehan. The evening never become boring as the boys then sung ‘No Matter What’ which was the crowds favourite; they could sing every word back to the four boys. Much to the crowds disappointment it was time for the final song.
Luckily for the crowd the boys performed an encore. All four of the boys come on to the stage in different outfits that they performed in in the 80’s. The encore consisted of a cover of ‘When The Going Gets Tough’ by Billy Ocean. Ronan Keating then introduced their song ‘Life Is A Rollercoaster’ which led into ‘Picture Of You’ as the final song of the evening. Overall the crowd was singing and dancing during the whole set; which is also the longest set the boys have ever performed. What an amazing way to end a very successful 25 years of BoyZone!
